We’ve been given the opportunity to showcase both our skills as cooks as well as the wonderful selection of foods grown right here in the Brazos Valley.
The Brazos Progressives is co-sponsoring the upcoming “Evening of the Arts” set for Friday, April 3 from 6-9PM to feature local artists and kick off GLBT Awareness Week. Several groups will host refreshments to be served during intermission between 7:00 and 7:45. Already covered are baked goods and drinks, which leads us open for a creative display of local appetizers and snacks.
Between the amazing harvest available at our local Farmers’ Market and the wealth of resources from other area producers, there couldn’t be a better time to start practicing with some homemade local goodies. We’ll need to prepare enough for roughly 50 people, so I need several volunteers to whip up some fabulous hors d’oeuvres. Reimbursement for expenses will be available from the Brazos Progressives (submit through me).
During intermission, handouts will be provided about the Brazos Locavores as well as recipes for the local dishes provided. This is a great way to get the word out about our group as well as the benefits of eating locally-produced foods.
So get your thinking caps on and let’s get cooking! Be sure to let me know if you’d like to participate and what you’d like to bring so that I can coordinate everyone’s goodies and give you details for delivery, etc. If you have any questions or need help finding local producers, just let me know.
